KooeeKeis Australian Cobberdogs ~ Ethical Family Breeder in WA
One of the most common questions we receive at KooeeKeis is about Australian Cobberdog allergies and whether this breed is truly allergy-friendly. Many families love the idea of welcoming a Cobberdog into their home but want reassurance that itching, sneezing, watery eyes, or asthma won’t become an issue.
While no dog breed is 100% hypoallergenic, Australian Cobberdogs are carefully bred for low-shedding, allergy-friendly fleece coats. This significantly reduces airborne dander compared to many other breeds. However, every individual reacts differently, which is why we offer simple and practical allergy testing options before you commit to a puppy.
Dog allergies are not actually caused by fur. They are triggered by proteins found in:
Dander (dead skin cells)
Saliva
Urine
When a dog sheds, these allergens spread more easily into the environment. Because the Australian Cobberdog has a low-shedding coat, there is typically far less allergen distribution throughout the home.
However, sensitivity levels vary between individuals. Some people with mild allergies or asthma experience no reaction at all, while others may need to test first for peace of mind.
Before joining our waitlist, we recommend reading through our breeder process to understand how we match families carefully.
We propose two safe and practical ways to determine whether an Australian Cobberdog will suit your family.
The most reliable way to test for Australian Cobberdog allergies is to visit us and spend time with our dogs in person.
During your visit, we encourage you to:
Throw the ball
Sit closely with the dogs
Give them cuddles
Spend at least 30–60 minutes interacting
If this exposure does not trigger itching, sneezing, watery eyes, or breathing discomfort, it is an excellent sign that you can comfortably live with an Australian Cobberdog.
This method provides real-time exposure and is ideal for families who live within travelling distance of us in WA.
If you live too far away to visit, don’t worry — we have a second option.
Simply post one of your worn cotton T-shirts to us. We will place it in our dogs’ bedding for approximately one week to allow natural exposure to dander and environmental allergens.
We then seal the shirt in a zip-lock bag and return it to you.
When you receive it:
Wear the shirt for at least 30 minutes
Relax in your normal environment
Monitor for any signs of reaction
If you experience no symptoms, it suggests that Australian Cobberdog allergies are unlikely to be a concern for you.
This method is especially helpful for families managing mild sensitivities who want reassurance before joining our waitlist and pop us an email to let us know it is on its way.

No dog is completely hypoallergenic. However, Australian Cobberdogs are intentionally bred for:
Low shedding fleece coats
Reduced dander spread
Consistent coat genetics
Allergy-friendly traits
At KooeeKeis, we carefully select breeding dogs that carry no copies of the shedding gene, supporting families who require a more allergy-considerate companion.
We strongly recommend testing if:
You or your child has asthma
You have previously reacted to dogs
You suffer from eczema or skin sensitivities
You simply want reassurance before committing
Taking this extra step ensures confidence and avoids emotional disappointment later.
At KooeeKeis Australian Cobberdogs, transparency and responsible breeding guide every decision we make.
We understand that welcoming a puppy is a long-term commitment. Addressing concerns about Australian Cobberdog allergies before bringing your puppy home ensures a positive and successful match for both family and dog.
At KooeeKeis, we believe responsible breeding includes open conversations about Australian Cobberdog allergies. Transparency builds trust, and we would much rather test first than have a family feel uncertain after bringing their puppy home.
Can someone with asthma own an Australian Cobberdog?
Some people with mild allergies or asthma may still live comfortably with an Australian Cobberdog. For more information about managing asthma, visit Asthma Australia.
Does the T-shirt method really work?
Yes. It exposes you to real dander proteins from our dogs in a controlled way.
What if I react mildly during testing?
We recommend discussing your symptoms with a healthcare professional before proceeding.
If you are concerned about Australian Cobberdog allergies, we encourage you to contact us. Importantly, testing before committing prevents unnecessary stress later and gives you peace of mind and ensures that your future Australian Cobberdog will be a joyful and comfortable addition to your family.
