KooeeKeis Puppy Personality Testing & Matching

At KooeeKeis Australian Cobberdogs, we take puppy personality testing seriously. It’s not a gimmick, and it’s certainly not box-ticking — it’s one of the most important things we do to ensure the long-term wellbeing of our puppies and our families.

Choosing a puppy shouldn’t be a lucky dip. Every Australian Cobberdog is born with their own little spark — their own temperament, preferences, confidence levels, and quirks. Our job is to honour who they are, understand what they need, and make sure they’re paired with a family who will celebrate those traits for life.

This is why KooeeKeis puppies settle so beautifully into their new homes — because the match is thoughtful, intentional, and grounded in real behavioural understanding.

Temperament vs Personality — What’s the Difference?

Australian Cobberdogs have a famously predictable breed temperament:
• people-oriented
• intuitive
• affectionate
• intelligent
• eager to connect
• naturally suited for therapy, assistance, and family life

But within that breed temperament, personality types still vary widely.
A Cobberdog can be:

  • full-on bold and confident

  • soft and gentle

  • sensitive and thoughtful

  • outgoing and social

  • calm, cuddly, and steady

  • or slightly reserved and observant

All are still 100% Australian Cobberdog — just with different personalities.

Imagine a family wanting a super outgoing Cobberdog who loves meeting strangers. If they pick purely on looks, they may accidentally choose the puppy who prefers quiet one-on-one time with their people rather than parties and busy parks. Nothing is “wrong” — it’s just not the ideal match.

That’s where personality testing steps in. It takes away the guesswork and ensures expectations line up with reality.

Why Puppy Personality Testing Matters

Matching puppies to families isn’t about favourites or picking “the best one.”
It’s about:

–  giving every puppy the best chance at a stable, lifelong home
–  helping families succeed with training, bonding, and socialisation
–  reducing mismatches and rehoming risks
–  supporting our puppies emotionally as well as physically

A well-matched puppy isn’t just easier to raise — they simply fit. They grow into the kind of companion their family hoped for, and that builds lasting confidence for both puppy and humans.

What Influences Personality?

Many people think temperament is inherited directly from parents — but personality in puppies is a blend of genetics, early environment, handling, stimulation, and the individual pup’s natural wiring.

We’ve seen outgoing parents produce quiet, reflective puppies…
and shy mums produce bold little adventurers!

At KooeeKeis, we don’t make assumptions based solely on parent behaviour — we let the puppies show us who they really are.

How We Test & Match Your Puppy

At around 6 weeks of age, we conduct structured personality testing with each puppy.

Our testing blends:

  • Volhard Puppy Aptitude principles

  • KooeeKeis-specific behavioural observations

  • Responses to sound, sight, handling, restraint, and new environments

  • Interaction with strangers and novel situations

Families also complete our KooeeKeis Waitlist Application, which helps us understand your lifestyle, experience, home environment, expectations, and the type of companion you are hoping for.

We then carefully match each puppy to the most suitable family.
Examples:

A gentle, soft puppy → A quieter home, first-time dog owners, or families with young children
A bold, curious puppy → Experienced families or active homes wanting a confident working/therapy prospect
A cuddly, people-focused pup → Families wanting a companion dog, emotional-support dog, or therapy prospect

You don’t have to “pick the right puppy.”
We take that responsibility off your shoulders — because we know them best.

Common Personality Types in Australian Cobberdogs

Although Cobberdogs vary, we most commonly see puppies fall within these ranges:

  • Bold-Confident

  • Sociable-Friendly

  • Gentle-Cooperative

  • Shy-Timid (soft, sensitive, placid)

We rarely see dominant or aloof puppies in this breed — Cobberdogs are simply too people-focused for that. Most are very easy to train, responsive, and eager to please.

Why KooeeKeis Matching Works

Our program isn’t just about selling a puppy — it’s about building a lifelong partnership.
Families who adopt a puppy that truly fits thrive with:

✔ smoother training
✔ fewer behavioural challenges
✔ stronger bonding
✔ easier socialisation
✔ reduced anxiety for both puppy and owner
✔ a happier, more confident puppy from day one

Matching is one of the most powerful things a breeder can do to set puppies up for success — and we’re proud to offer it as part of every KooeeKeis litter.

In Summary

When you adopt a KooeeKeis Australian Cobberdog, you’re not just receiving a puppy — you’re receiving a thoughtfully chosen companion matched specifically for your family.

We honour each puppy’s unique personality and each family’s unique needs.
And when those two align beautifully… magic happens.
