KooeeKeis Australian Cobberdogs ~ Ethical Family Breeder in WA

Lifetime Genetic Health Guarantee

Protecting the Future of the Cobberdog

At KooeeKeis, we’re proud to be part of a breed that was thoughtfully developed with health and temperament front and centre. The Australian Cobberdog hasn’t just “happened” — it’s the result of careful decisions by dedicated foundation breeders who always put the wellbeing of the dogs above everything else.

Unlike many older breeds, the Cobberdog has had the benefit of modern science, global communication, and safe transport, giving it a huge head start. Breeders before us made the tough calls — ending certain bloodlines and retiring even expensive breeding dogs if their offspring weren’t sound. This strict approach means that many potential health or temperament issues never made it into the gene pool.

Today, every Australian Cobberdog must be listed on the MDBA Australian Cobberdog Stud Registry and meet strict entry requirements. There are no shortcuts and no automatic approvals — every single dog is individually assessed before it can contribute to the breed’s future.

Our Commitment to Health

Registration Rules

The MDBA keeps an open but restricted stud book. That means new bloodlines can be added, but only under very strict rules to protect health, integrity, and transparency. These rules are created with input from the Australian Cobberdog Breed Advisory Group and MDBA-registered breeders like us.

Mandatory Health Testing

Before any Cobberdog can join a breeding program, the following are non-negotiable:

      • Hip & Elbow X-rays (OFA, PennHIP, or MDBA Radiology)

      • Annual full veterinary health checks (covering eyes, heart, and overall wellbeing)

      • DNA testing for all relevant genetic conditions known in the breed.
At least one parent must be DNA clear for every tested disease, by either testing or parentage.

Additional Trait Testing

Cobberdogs are also tested for key traits that affect coat and structure, including:

    • Merle

    • Undercoat

    • Shedding

    • Curly coat (x2)

    • Long-hair

    •  Improper Coat

A Healthy Future

Every rule and requirement is there for one reason: to ensure that the Australian Cobberdog remains healthy, sound, and true to purpose — not just today, but for generations to come.

With ongoing commitment from ethical breeders and support from the MDBA, the Cobberdog is on a strong path toward long-term wellbeing, genetic stability, and worldwide recognition as a predictable pure breed.

At KooeeKeis, we carry that torch proudly — because every puppy we place is more than just a pet. They are family, therapy companions, and lifelong best mates.
