Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) is a science-backed program we use from days 3–16 to help give our Cobberdog puppies the very best start in life…

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) Explained

Early Neurological Stimulation giving puppies the best start in life (ENS) – An Essential Practice for Puppies’ Development

At KooeeKeis, we are dedicated to the well-being of our puppies. We recognise that the first few weeks of a puppy’s life are crucial for their development. This is when they are most impressionable and responsive to their environment. Our Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) programme is designed to harness this sensitive period effectively.

ENS works on the principle that early exposure to various stimuli can have profound impacts on a puppy’s future temperament and behaviour. Puppies that undergo ENS tend to exhibit better adaptability to new environments, improved stress responses, and enhanced social skills. This can be particularly beneficial for Cobberdogs, a breed known for its intelligence and sociability.

Moreover, the practice of ENS aligns with the natural development of puppies. Just as human infants benefit from gentle stimulation and interaction, so too do puppies. By carefully guiding them through specific exercises during their early days, we not only promote physical growth but also emotional and psychological resilience.

Our approach incorporates not only sensory experiences but also social interactions. For instance, we encourage our puppies to engage with various textures, sounds, and sights, facilitating a holistic development process. This exposure is vital in their journey to becoming well-adjusted adult dogs.

Research has shown that puppies who experience ENS are often more confident and less prone to anxiety later in life. This is particularly important for families looking to adopt a puppy, as a well-adjusted dog can lead to a more harmonious home environment.

Additionally, our ENS programme is complemented by regular assessments of each puppy’s behaviour and development. This allows us to tailor our approach to meet the needs of individual puppies, ensuring that they receive the best possible start in life. Each exercise is implemented with care, ensuring that it is both effective and enjoyable for the puppies.

In conclusion, our commitment to Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) reflects our understanding of early development’s significance. We believe that the early days of a puppy’s life are not just a critical period for physical growth but also for emotional and social development. By investing in these practices, we aim to produce not only healthy but also happy and well-balanced dogs.

We invite prospective puppy owners to learn more about our ENS techniques and the profound effects they have on our Cobberdogs. By choosing a KooeeKeis Cobberdog, you are selecting a puppy who is well on their way to a bright and fulfilling future, backed by a strong foundation of care and early stimulation.

We are proud to say that many of our puppies have gone on to become therapy dogs, family companions, and active participants in various canine sports, showcasing the success of our early intervention strategies.

At KooeeKeis, we continue to refine our practices based on ongoing research and feedback from puppy owners. We believe in the importance of lifelong learning, both for our team and for the families that welcome our puppies into their homes.

As we move forward, we remain committed to enhancing the quality of life for our Cobberdogs through innovative practices like ENS. Together with our community of puppy owners, we celebrate each milestone in our puppies’ journeys, nurturing them into the best versions of themselves.

In summary, early neurological stimulation is a transformative practice that prepares puppies for their future lives. We believe in giving our puppies the tools they need to thrive, and we stand by our mission of Early Neurological Stimulation giving puppies the best start in life.

At KooeeKeis Australian Cobberdogs, we believe that the little things we do in the first weeks of a puppy’s life make a big difference later on. One of the special practices we include in our program is Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) — a gentle series of exercises that help puppies grow into confident, resilient dogs.

Helping our little Cobberdog cuties grow brave, clever and confident — from day 3 of life!

At KooeeKeis, early socialisation is absolutely essential to raising resilient, well-rounded Australian Cobberdog puppies. Alongside our usual snuggles, handling, gentle noises, and family life exposure, we also introduce two special early-life exercises:

Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS) and Early Scent Introduction (ESI)
These simple, gentle routines support your puppy’s development in ways that last a lifetime.

ENS (Early Neurological Stimulation):

A series of tiny, controlled exercises performed on puppies from days 3–16 to support brain development, resilience and coping skills.

ESI (Early Scent Introduction):
Introducing one new scent each day (also from days 3–16) to encourage confidence, curiosity and future scenting ability.

These early experiences take just a few minutes — but the lifelong benefits are huge.

Why We Use ENS at KooeeKeis

Gentle early stimulation helps our pups:

  • Boost brain development

  • Strengthen their immune and cardiovascular systems

  • Build healthier stress responses

  • Improve their ability to adapt to new situations

  • Encourage daily hands-on checks with each pup (a KooeeKeis favourite!)

We’ve seen the long-term magic of these exercises in our pups’ temperaments, therapy-dog potential, and overall confidence.

The science-y bit made simple

ENS was developed by Dr Carmen Battaglia, a respected breeder and researcher. It combines gentle tactile and thermal stimulation with mild, controlled stressors — all designed to strengthen the developing nervous system.

When Do we Do ENS?
Once per day, from day 3 to day 16 after birth

When Do We Do ENS?

Once a day, from Day 3 to Day 16 after birth.

The 5 ENS Exercises

Each position lasts 3–5 seconds — that’s it!

  1. Head Up

  2. Head Down

  3. Supine Position (pup on their back)

  4. Cool Towel

  5. Tactile Stimulation (lightly tickle the pup’s toes with a cotton bud)

After these gentle moments, the puppy goes straight back to their litter to snuggle and settle.
