Guardian Home Program | KooeeKeis Australian Cobberdogs

At KooeeKeis, our Guardian Home Program allows local families to welcome a beautiful Australian Cobberdog into their home while supporting our ethical breeding program.

We are proudly a home-based breeder located in York, Western Australia — not a kennel operation. Our Guardian Program allows our breeding dogs to live as cherished family companions while we responsibly preserve and improve this remarkable breed.

What Is a Guardian Home?

A Guardian Home is a permanent family home for one of our carefully selected breeding prospects.

The guardian family receives a high-quality Cobberdog at a significantly reduced cost (see program fee below), while KooeeKeis retains the breeding rights for a defined period.

This program is designed for families who:

  • Live within reasonable distance of York and our preferred veterinarian in Midvale, WA

  • Want a premium Cobberdog

  • Support ethical, responsible breeding

  • Have no intention of breeding themselves

As of 1 January 2026, the Guardian Puppy commitment fee is $800, which secures placement on our Guardian Waitlist.

This is not a program for those wishing to start their own breeding program — it is a partnership built on trust, transparency, and shared goals.

Why We Offer a Guardian Program

We believe breeding dogs should live in loving homes — not kennels.

Our Guardian Home Program allows us to:

  • Maintain small, ethical breeding numbers

  • Preserve genetic diversity

  • Raise puppies in nurturing family environments

  • Continue improving structure, temperament, and health

Every guardian dog is carefully selected as a future breeding prospect based on temperament, structure, coat quality, and comprehensive health and genetic testing. You can learn more about our health screening protocols here.

Guardian families receive an exceptional dog.
In return, they understand that for a defined period, their dog will contribute to our breeding program.

Male vs Female Guardian Dogs

Female Guardian Dogs

Female guardians are typically committed for 2–3 successful litters (a successful litter being three or more puppies).

When breeding:

  • The female will stay with us prior to delivery

  • She remains with us through whelping and weaning

  • Total time away is generally 6–8 weeks

After her final litter:

  • She is desexed at the guardian family’s expense

  • Full ownership is transferred (Master Dog Breeders & Associates registration)

Guardian families are welcome to visit during agreed times while their girl is with us.

Male Guardian Dogs

Male guardians are typically required to live in closer proximity to us.

  • Males may be required with short notice when a female comes into season

  • Most males are not kept overnight

  • Occasional visits to our preferred vet in Midvale may be required

After their agreed breeding term (approximately 6 years), the male is desexed and remains permanently with his guardian family.

Male guardian homes must be flexible and communicative.

Additional Requirements

Guardian homes must:

  • Have stable housing

  • Have landlord permission (if renting)

  • Have all other dogs desexed

  • Keep the guardian dog as an indoor family companion

  • Have basic dog experience

  • Intend to remain within the agreed geographical area for the duration of the contract

  • Allow breeder home visits if required

This is not suited for families planning to relocate frequently.

Can a Guardian Buy the Dog Out of the Program?

No.

Our guardian dogs are carefully selected in advance for structure, temperament, colour, and genetics to advance our breeding program. For this reason, we do not offer buy-out options.

If you apply, please do so with full commitment to the agreed terms.
